1. Snapshot Settings
1.1 Snapshot Storage Schedule
Certain events — such as IVS — require snapshots to be stored on the NVR in order to display results in AI search logs.
IVS AI Search page — requires stored snapshots to populate event logs.
Where AI search functionality is required, enable the Snapshot Storage Schedule for both General and event types (such as Intelligent) across all channels. This ensures the NVR receives images from cameras and can log events correctly.

1.2 Snapshot Quality
High-quality snapshots are rarely necessary for day-to-day monitoring and consume considerably more storage, memory, and transmission bandwidth. Unless specifically required, reduce the Snapshot Quality setting from 5 to 1 for both Schedule (General) and Event snapshots on all channels.

2. Event Management
Generating hundreds or thousands of events per channel per day is counterproductive for most security monitoring purposes. Excessive events make it harder to identify genuine incidents and can slow down the NVR significantly.
Example of over 10,000 SMD events generated in a single day — this is not practical for security monitoring.
2.1 Disable Unnecessary Events
The quickest way to reduce event volume is to disable Motion Detection (MD) on channels where it is not needed. SMD is automatically disabled when MD is turned off.
To apply this efficiently across all channels: disable MD on Channel 1, click Save, use the Copy To function to apply the setting to all other channels, click Save again, and then reboot the NVR.

2.2 Schedule Events
If a detection rule does not need to run around the clock, configure a schedule so it is only active during the relevant hours. This reduces unnecessary event generation outside of monitored periods.

3. Disarm Scheduling
Disarm — or Scheduled Disarm — provides a straightforward way to suppress alarm linkages during specific periods, such as business hours when activity is expected and alarms would be disruptive.

4. Auto-Maintenance
Devices operating under sustained heavy load benefit from scheduled maintenance routines. Configure the following on both cameras and recorders:
- Auto-reboot Schedule a weekly automatic reboot. Avoid setting the same reboot time for all devices at a site to prevent simultaneous downtime across the network.
- Auto-delete old files Configure the device to automatically delete files older than 30 days. This prevents storage from filling up in a way that could interrupt normal recording and operation.
